About the book

Living forever is not an option available today. However, feeling younger and looking younger is an option available to all! Healthy diet and lifestyle choices, made as early as possible, will help you get as near as possible to your maximum possible age whilst enjoying good physical and mental vitality.

"Turning Back the Clock" is a guide to how we can make sensible decisions about our health and diet whilst enjoying a continued quality of life. Not many of us really want to be 90 or 100 years old, filled with medication and tucked away in a nursing home unaware of our surroundings.

Every organ in our body requires optimum nutrition, oxygen and exercise to ensure it is running smoothly. As we age our nutritional requirements change and a review from time to time will identify simple adjustments to ensure that health and vitality is maintained.

In the book you will find not just nutritional guidance including the foods that help anti-aging but also how our attitudes and external appearance can add years to our actual age.

Whilst we all might want to gain that extra ten years at the end of our lives it is actually easier to turn the clock back now and regain the last ten instead. Turning Back the Clock may help you achieve that.

WHAT IS COVERED?

There is a great deal of research into aging and some of it is proving very interesting. However, my feeling is that it is usually based on animal trials rather than long term human studies and I am not interested until it gets to that stage. It is clear that some calorie restriction might work and certainly I practice intermittent fasting as this works for me. Apart from fluids which are essential, I eat in an 8 hour window each day unless it is a special occasion. I find it suits me and automatically restricts my calories to an optimum level and allows my body time to process the nutrients that I am feeding it. There are some excellent books and articles on the subject and I will only touch on in the chapter on weight.

CHAPTER ONE – Why Do We All Want To Stop The Aging Process?

We look at how and why ageing occurs. How it is affected by diet, and weight.

CHAPTER TWO – The pH Factor

I will be looking at Acidity and Alkaline Balance and the affect that being even the slightest bit out of balance can have on your health and energy levels.

CHAPTER THREE – The Hormone Effect

This chapter is about what we can achieve with diet in helping our body regulate the effects of our hormones on our bodies. Looking at the master controller in our brain, the Hypothalamus, which is absolutely crucial to many of our daily functions and is our ‘hard drive’. Identifying the glands and organs and how we can keep them healthy with diet to avoid problems like diabetes.

It is so important to remember that we are far, far more than just our sex hormones. Of course oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone play a very important role in aging but we have many more hormones in our body and it they are in balance we can stay sexual, vital and healthy.

CHAPTER FOUR – The Immune System

A weakened immune system will leave us vulnerable to infections and also to our own body’s inability to deal with the toxins around us. We are going to look at how the Immune system works to protect us and what are the greatest toxic threats. These toxins build up in our tissues and organs and so I will be looking at a gentle way to detox the system and to improve its ability to prevent chronic and degenerative diseases taking hold. We are not going to be going on a water or juice only detox, but will be introducing foods into your diet that help stimulate the elimination of toxins from your body.

CHAPTER FIVE – The Emotional Factor

Getting older is very emotive for many people. This increases stress that effects the whole body. I wanted to get away from the body for a while and concentrate on our emotional wellbeing. Many people forget how therapeutic emotional involvement can be. This is not necessarily between lovers but also between our families, friends, pets and it is proven that that bond is vital to health and therefore to the rate that we age.

CHAPTER SIX – Taking A Deep Breath

We can hold our breath for only a few minutes before all the functions in our body fail. We are going to look at this vital element for survival but also at its effect on the entire body. I will be introducing a very simple but effective breathing exercise that will really make you feel younger. Breathing is not only necessary to sustain life but also to cleanse the body from the inside out.

CHAPTER SEVEN – Anti-Aging Exercises

Exercise, flexibility and the body’s need to feel useful are the areas we will cover in this chapter. Without movement we take away a great deal of purpose from our body’s existence. It will then turn away from food because it has no need for it. This is why older people begin to lose their appetites, as not only are their senses dulled including their ability to taste food, but their bodies are not working enough to stimulate the need to provide energy. There are certain substances in our bodies like collagen, synovial fluid in the joints, cartilage that can be stimulated to continue growing and renewing with exercise and diet.

CHAPTER EIGHT – Taking Care Of the Externals

The way we look and feel has a direct influence on the rate that we age. I am going to look at how we can improve our skin tone; our hair and perhaps the way we are perceived age wise by others. The way that we dress, the colours that we wear all play a part in establishing ourselves within a certain age group. By this I am not advocating going around wearing mini-skirts, even if the men do have wonderful legs. But elegance and style can take ten years off your age group.

CHAPTER NINE – Adjusting Our Attitudes

This is about the mental side of aging. Stimulation is not only needed physically but also mentally. As we get older many feel that they are unable to learn new things, particularly the modern technology but this is absolutely nonsense. You are never too old and one of the areas you have to be so careful about is self-ageism. From saying that you are too old to change to talking nonstop about your ailments.

CHAPTER TEN – Keeping It Up

This is not about reading a book that you then forget and put away. If you really want to live longer, be more energetic and go out kicking at a ripe old age then you need to put in place some strategies that keep you on the ball. It has to be fun, emotional, physical and worthwhile. It is about making every single day worth remembering, even if it was only for the fact that you listened all day to music that made you remember the good things in your life. Much better, though to find people that you can share all this new found zest for life with.

NUTRITIONAL AND FOOD GUIDE
