About the Author
Jessie Brooks was born into a loving family in the stark pre-war years in Stockton on Tees. Her father was a master builder and her mother’s family had owned coaching inns and bakeries in the once prosperous north of England. By the time Jessie was born, times were hard but interesting as the family took in elderly boarders to supplement their income.
The war years were also bleak for the family but Jessie always had her great love of music and dance to keep her cheerful and to entertain and brighten the lives of her family and friends.
An early marriage failed, after the loss of her only child, and Jessie was forced to embark on a series of careers to make a living. Eventually, she found herself working in the antiques trade which she loved and which has been an undying passion to the present day.
Her most ambitious venture was the Grange Guest house where she was landlady to the rising stars of the 60s and 7’s as they toured the clubs in the north of England. Jessie entered into a long term relationship which failed in the 70’s and forced her to re-assess her life. Marbella beckoned and it was here that she met the love of her life, Tommy Spring an accomplished and well known musician who had been the toast of the town in London before moving to Spain.
Together they formed an enduring entertainment partnership and for the next twenty years they played for the rich and famous in the top nightspots in Marbella.
Today Jessie is busy learning Spanish, playing bridge and looking forward to sharing her story in her book “From Mother Hubbard’s to Marbella”.
