When I was first asked to review this book, someone commented that I wasn't the right person for the job as I am reasonably slim and petite. But I would disagree, because Georgina Cronin has written a book that is immensely interesting and readable to all. It's not only aimed at the seriously overweight – it's not a 'dieting' book, it's more a book about a healthy lifestyle, and that is something that can be of benefit to us all. I guess most of us will have had some time in our lives when we were unhappy with our weight – it is, after all, one of the biggest preoccupations of western society. I've had a couple of real crises in my life, and both times I resorted to 'comfort eating' so I do very well understand the agonies of food dependency.
Georgina is brutally honest with herself as she reveals her innermost thoughts and failings. Weighing in at 150kg, with some serious health problems, and having tried all sorts of diets throughout the years, she realised that a new approach was essential. The programme she worked out for her self not only worked (she lost 70kg), but is one that can be constructed to individual needs and – better still – does not mean food deprivation!
So, if you answer yes to any of these questions you certainly need this book. Can't bath because can't get out again? Don't fit into airline seats? Get desperate late at night when the chocolate shops are closed? Can barely walk 10 mins, down the road? Have stopped doing everything you once loved? But, even if you don't fall into this group, this book is packed with food information and the eating plan will make you feel healthier, fitter and happier.
