Although the book has been written and totally compiled in Spain, it is, of course, entirely relevant to many other areas of the world – the entire Mediterranean basin, parts of Australia, South Africa, South America, California and milder areas of Great Britain and Ireland. Check through the origins of the plant, and you’ll see that the majority of them are indigenous to these countries. Inner city areas of cooler climes can often have strange climatic quirks too, making possible the cultivation of many. The plants featured are generally adaptable to a winter rain/hot, dry summer pattern, unless otherwise indicated. Soil preferences are neutral to alkaline, as prevalent in the Mediterranean area; any exceptions to this are noted.
